Estimates and consultations are always free!

Labor is billed at $100 an hour. All of our pricing is based on this number. There is a minimum Bench fee of $50.

Using these numbers, below is a list of prices for our most popular services

  • Set-up: $70-$100 plus strings and tax

Set-ups include a thorough cleaning of the guitar. The fretboard will be oiled and the frets will be polished. If sharp “fret-sprout” is present, it will be addressed. Truss rod, saddle height, and nut slot adjustments will all be made to dial in the perfect playing geometry so the instrument plays the best it can. Once the Geometry is in place, the string length compensation will be set so the instrument intonation is the best it can be. Finally, the instrument will go through an electronics check, if applicable, and have all of its nuts and bolts tightened and checked. Then, the instrument will have a final clean and polish.

  • New Bone Nut/Saddle: $125 plus materials and tax

If a new nut or saddle is needed due to wear through the years, or otherwise, a bone blank is used to fashion a custom-made replacement, specific to the instrument in question. If pre-shaped materials are available, this cost could be less. This process will always require a Set-up in addition to this work, not included in the price of the nut/saddle itself.

  • Fret Level Crown and polish: $150 plus Strings and Tax

The plane of the top of the frets is paramount to the playability of an instrument. this service includes leveling the tops of all the frets so they are all in alignment with each other. once the frets are level, they are then “crowned” so that the top of the fret is a perfectly rounded surface. Once this is done, the frets are then polished back to a mirror shine. Finally, a Set-up is performed to accommodate the new fret height and is not included in the price.

  • Re-fret: $400 plus strings and tax

When frets are too worn to be recrowned, or the fretboard surface has warped, a re-fret is needed. The frets are carefully removed so as to not chip the fretboard. If chips are present, they are filled and fixed. the fretboard is leveled and radiused to factor specifications, and polished to a mirror shine. New frets are prepared for the fretboard and installed, by hand into place. Once the new frets are installed, the fret ends are trimmed filed, and buffed smooth, and the frets are leveled and recrowned for the perfect fret plane. A Set-up is then performed and is not included in this price.

  • Neck Re-Set: $850 plus strings and tax

When the neck angle of a guitar becomes too shallow for a normal setup to be successful, a neck re-set is needed. The neck of the instrument is heated and pulled from the body. once separate, the mating surfaces are cleaned, and the material is removed from the neck to readjust the angle. The neck is then glued back into place. Often, the instrument will need a Set-up and new saddle, due to the geometry of the instrument changing, which is not included in this price. In rare cases, an instrument may also need a re-fret in addition to this work, also, not included in the above price.

  • Electronics work: starting at $75 plus materials and tax

We can do anything from simple pickup swaps to diagnosing and fixing noise issues. Due to the nature of this work, it is nearly impossible to quote exact pricing until the specified job is performed. some noise issues can be attributed to a broken or failing part, while others need complete re-construction of the circuit from the ground up. We will always be as upfront as we can, and as communicative as possible with the service as it progresses.

The above prices and descriptions only scratch the surface of what we do. Due to the nature of these services, these prices are generally only accurate estimates. We strive to be as upfront about our pricing as possible when we see the instrument in our shop. If our customers decide to proceed with the work, based on our estimates, and services arise that should, or need to be addressed, we strive to be as communicative and clear as possible.

We do not require any down payment for work to be performed unless parts or materials are widely outside the shop norm. This will be decided during the initial consultation and evaluation of the instrument.
